The Long Game-Part 1 [Part 2]

Do you ever have that feeling that everyone else is more successful than you?
If you think that’s bad - try being Leonardo Da Vinci

I’m done painting my first miniature ever.

it took forever and the figure doesn’t look as good as I imagined before painting but after asking some friends, who painted many Warhammer armies before, it looks fine and serviceable.

Tomorrow I’ll get some matte varnish to protect the colors from peeling off the figure.

I was watching the newest Colbert Report and found a little detail that satisfies my nerd senses.
HAIL HYDRA!

Ugh… Miniature painting is haaaard. It is my first time doing this. I need to work more on that miniature because it looks like crap at the moment.

Morning On Mars

Martian sunrises, as seen by the HiRISE orbiter

Ahhhhhhhh! So beautiful… ;____;

I’ve seen this post multiple times on my dashboard and I have to say that these images aren’t real. In fact these were done with a program called Terragen 2 (from planetside http://planetside.co.uk/ ) by the artist Kees Veenenbos (as you can clearly see at the bottom of the pictures).

The belief that these images were real makes me a bit mad, firstly because people don’t do research and secondly it is so obvious to me that these aren’t real from the look (i don’t want to attack anyone here). I used Terragen 2 a long time ago and I have seen a huge amount of images done with this program (I used Terragen 0.9.xx a lot more). Because of this my brain knows all the nuances that Terragen 2 produces, especially the look of the atmosphere and lighting.

There is even an article from the Huffington Post about Kees Veenenbos images http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/03/mars-renderings-kees-veenenbos-images_n_3000366.html

Also: Mars doesn’t has such a thick atmosphere to even produce such beautiful mists and fogs and sand storms.

Despite of this rant I like these images too.

The end of the latest Game of Thrones episode made me so happy. I was anticipating it the whole time.

The Serpent Princess! OOOH man, this is just too cool not to share. Your daily dose of fantasy :) Enjoy this master piece!

I bought recently a new D&D miniature because the DM doesn’t have a wizard that looks how I imagine my character. It wasn’t very expensive, even when the miniature came from the USA. 5€ isn’t too much. The figure is pretty close to my expectations. My wizard uses an orb to cast his spells but it doesn’t bother me much that he hasn’t one. I’m considering removing the staff while it is still unpainted.
Speaking of the paint: Why is paint so expensive? I knew that Warhammer-enthusiasts pay a lot of money for their miniatures and paint but I didn’t realize how expensive my project can become. All the colors I need sum up to at least 25€ (new non-Games-Workshop colors). I’ll ask some friends who know some people who can sell me their scraps. I don’t need much paint so the rests will suffice.
Also: “My Normal-Sized Ponies” in the background

I was invited to tell the children how to take care for a hamster for the school class’ new class pet project. When the teacher and I weren’t looking for a second the hamster was gone and a colt began to choke. Luckily a well-performed Heimlich maneuver could solve the mystery of the missing hamster and safe the colt’s life.

Cutie marks are funny.
